SEO loves social media. There…I said it. People don’t realize how important they are for each other, but they are. After all, they both rely so heavily on popularity, engagement, relevance and authority. So Dawn and I shed a little light today…
A big thanks to Rob Thomas and John Howlett [not to mention Steve Cartier] for inviting Dawn and me back to the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce’s Tech Council series.

I gave this presentation today in Fairfield. In prepping for the discussion, I was amazed to see how quickly things change. Here is our social media presentation that has been updated with the most current statistics.
Crazy to think that just 5 months ago we thought 13 hours of video uploaded every minute to YouTube was a lot…it’s now up to 24 hours of video uploaded every minute! And the demographics of who is online is definitely shifting too.
Take a look at our updated version of Social Media + Branding and let us know if you have any questions.

I thought I would share a case study that I presented today at the Social Media Club’s event for Social Web Week 2010.
I had the privilege of speaking on a panel with Andre Yap and Amy Desmarais, owners of Ripple 100 and Giulia Gouge, owner of SheSoSocial. Each of us reviewed different case studies that focus on using social media in a cost-effective and plain-old effective way.
I, of course, talked about Kitchen ZINC and our Make Your Own Pizza Contest. Incase you hadn’t heard the final details, this promotion was wildly successful. We received thousands of votes, met all of our goals…and the client was happy!
So without further delay, here is the presentation that reviews the case study and also shares some helpful tips on creating your own interactive contest.

I had a great time talking with Nick from ALRPRA last week on social media for the service industry.
The entire experience was a great exercise in the power of social media. Nick found me on Yale Entrepreneurial Institutes archives from a presentation Dawn and I did last year. He reached out through Facebook to see if I would be interested in talking on his blog talk radio show.
We talked about a lot of things…
• Is social media just a fad?
• How can social media be used in the service industry for marketing
• How do you measure social media effectiveness and ROI
• Golden rules to keep in mind for social media
• And of course, some stats!
Take a listen and let me know if you have any additional questions!

Facebook Seminar
We just completed a seminar for the New Haven Chamber of Commerce on how to utilize Facebook for growing your business and organization. Tomorrow, we are going to post the PowerPoint presentation to YouTube and some reference materials up here on the blog.
We really enjoyed teaming up with the Chamber and are looking forward to doing it again!
